Sports & Gym

Since its inception, River City’s Sports and Gym has become a staple. Our classes operate with a great deal of tough love. Over the years, it has become apparent that boys need a little tough love every once and a while. The tough love approach attempts to balance the high energy and fast paced nature of class with discipline, accountability, and an emphasis on coach-ability.

Sports & Gym 3

The Sports & Gym 3 class represents the initial “nudge” out of a parent assisted class. While it combines elements of gymnastics and various sports, the emphasis on class is following directions, listening to the coach, and learning how to “be coached.” All these crucial elements of child development are achieved through age appropriate obstacle courses and an introduction to various sports (kickball, baseball, football, bowling, soccer, etc…)!

Sports & Gym 4-5

The Sports & Gym 4-5 class builds off the foundations of the 3 year old class. The highly structured, fast paced class allows for the boys to develop an overall sense of strength and coordination. Much like the previous class, a large emphasis is put on listening to directions and learning how to "“be coached.”

School Aged Classes

As the boys get older, the Sports and Gym classes reflect a blend of Ninja Warrior obstacles, gymnastics, and age appropriate CrossFit exercises. The classes operate to build and increase overall strength and coordination. The strength and coordination gained in our program translates not only as a base for any future athletic endeavor, but everyday life!

FAQs

What should my son wear to class?

We recommend wearing athletic shorts and shirt. Occasionally, we will have athletes come in sweats. This has the potential to get hot with the amount of movement going on in the gym.

My son does not seem to be listening. Is there anything I should be doing?

Be patient! Our classes are designed to reinforce structure and listening is pivotal. Boys, typically, need a little more time to understand the structure of class led by the coach. We will be patient with your athlete!

My son is scared of ________ or does not like __________. Can he do something else there?

Athletes quickly figure out that they must complete all obstacles. They do not pick and choose what they “would like” to do in class. The structure of class comes from following the directions of the coach.

Do you have more classes geared to more formal gymnastics for boys?

Unfortunately, we do not have a boys gymnastics team. That being said, we use the basis of gymnastics to create a fun and dynamic workout. If you are looking for formal gymnastics, we have some recommendations on where to go!
