Travis Hamblen
Head of Recreational Program
Travis was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia. He spent much of his youth playing travel soccer and wrestling at Saint Christopher’s school. His passion for working with kids began in high school as a tutor to St. Andrews School in Richmond. Upon graduating from Saint Christopher’s, Travis attended Hampden-Sydney College (Farmville, Virginia) where he earned a B.S. in English as well as a minor in history. His participation in the family business preceded his academic endeavors; however, he found his passion here at River City soon after his college graduation. His role within River City has grown immensely. His creative and innovative approach has contributed to the success of River City’s preschool program. He is constantly looking for new ways to challenge and push students past what they thought was possible.
Perspective at RCYF:
“My favorite part of the job is when students come in excited about class. Our goal here at River City is to get children excited about living an active and healthy lifestyle. Instilling the concept of a routine workout, as basic as it may be, sets the foundation for a more active future. Healthier physical habits have the potential to translate to success in the classroom as well as emotional and social development. Plus, I get a good workout too!”
Personal Info:
While Travis loves his time at River City, he has many hobbies and interests outside of the gym. Most notably, he loves to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Revolution BJJ. Training several times a week for the past three years has led to his promotion to blue belt. He has even helped teach some of the youth classes! His interests off the mat heavily revolve around food. Travis is constantly looking around Richmond for any and all types of cuisines to try. He often times takes his family to restaurants he discovered. His passion for food extends to the kitchen as well. He experiments with all types of foods. If you ever have or need food recommendations, feel free to ask Travis! Homer, Travis’s 6-year-old Basenji, and Travis go everywhere together. The two are best friends and can be seen playing around at River City during some of the lighter parts of the day.
